Peek behind the Purple Curtain

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

I promised you stuff, and I’m delivering on half. “Stereotypical” is the music I make, there’s no exact formula to it though I’m pretty strict on quality control. I’d like to drop the pretense and allow you, the listener, to enjoy incomplete works that may one day grow up to be musical butterflies. Or perhaps these sketches will languish for eternity…

But enough of my yakking, let’s boogie!

Notes from the underground of some place

Friday, November 21st, 2008

This has been a particularly dreary season. There’s been good stuff too, but in short we’re just up to our necks in real-world issues. What this all has to do with Penguinbros is, well, not a whole lot. Luckily for you people, this is my last year of college – it’s really flown by – so I’ll be returning to Penguinbros in a full-time capacity pretty soon. I think about all of you out there, on that internet, and how you love updates. And so here we are: nothing but the best for you.

I have some music and art that’s ready to go up this weekend, as soon as I have a moment to organize things. I AM NOT ORGANIZED RIGHT NOW OKAY.

One more thing! My good friend TV’s Kyle’s first two tunefully comedic albums have been released for free on the internet. Share the wealth via this link. Enjoy and good night!

Violet Mice

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

The artist (currently known as) Violet Mice has always been a very close friend of mine. Over the last week I’ve been working with him on his website, and it’s now ready for consumption: please check out Violet Mice.com and enjoy! And also be on the lookout for his upcoming album, Violence, which I also had a hand in.

UPDATE: I am reminded also that VM has released a free EP of muzak, entitled Girlz. Scope dis.

Penguin Politics

Far be it from me to turn this blog into a political soapbox, but this clip from Adam West’s “Batman” truly encapsulates the political landscape at this moment. Plus, it has The Penguin:

Summer Internship Write-Up

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

I guess you could say summer is over. I guess you could also say my internship at the Jim Henson Company is over too. I wrote about it, and you can read about it too if you wish.

Now begins my last year at college, so next summer…?

Cartoon Culture

Friday, August 15th, 2008

A couple of weeks ago I snapped a picture of a bootleg Bugs Bunny illustration and submitted it to the blog Cartoon Brew. Somehow I missed the fact that it got posted on there. So there you go, enjoy :}

Why do the good ones always get away?

Friday, August 1st, 2008

I was more than pleasantly surprised to see that Square Enix (ugh, hate that name) is publishing two games for the Nintendo DS based on Snoopy and Pingu.

I’ve never really shared this before, but my love for “Peanuts” truly borders on the fanatical. I wouldn’t hesitate to say I have one of the greatest private collections of Snoopy merchandise and memorabilia in the world. So that’s cool.

But Pingu is special for being the first thing that made my brother and me feel like it was safe to go public with our bad penguin selves. This was way before that glut of penguin movies forced penguins into the mainstream. Pingu was hillarious stop-motion animation that just totally rocked our world. Don’t get the picture? Take a gander at “Pingu Looks After the Egg.”

To conclude, I’m kinda sorry that these games won’t make it to American shores — hence the post title. But you never know! The European market gets all kinds of stuff you wouldn’t expect to see. But I’m just happy that these properties are getting games at all.

There Are Broken Things, In My House…

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Things are always tending to break around here. If you’ve checked the site in the last day, you may have noticed that the Gallery was crashing everything. Well that’s fixed. But now Red Penguin tells me that Frosty Village is down, and it has been for some time. Whaaaaaa? I’m trying to restore it from a backup, but I’m a little nervous. Whatever happens, we will rebuild. We will make it stronger, faster, harder etc. I will be working with Red to bring Frosty Village back in a big way!

I feel obligated to mention that under the most extraordinary of circumstances Red and I are attending the San Diego Comic Con in its entirety (if you had asked me a week ago I would have told you that there was no chance of us going). That said, we are going incognito and won’t have any identifiable features — not because we don’t love you guys, but because we had no time to prepare. We wish all of you – convention attendees and friends – the best of days.

Red Penguin is here! Red Penguin is here!

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Did I mention Red Penguin is here? Golly gosh! I’d had been an interesting summer so far, but until last night there was nothing in the realm of PB updates to report… until now! If you’ve been keeping up with Red (two months ago), you would know that he traveled to Japan. Well that ain’t no lie! And he’s got stories and memories by the bucketload. Hopefully he’ll share one or two :)

To be fair, he’s already shared several. I submit to you the following supa-cool Japanese gift-os, after the jump. (more…)

Googly Eyes Activate!

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Hello everybody out there. Have you been enjoying my Squawker updates? In truth, I haven’t had much of a head for blogging, webdesign or anything since coming home from college. I’ve been a traveling, rambling penguin of late.

I did spend a little time in Frosty Village but I’m not there right now! I’m staying in Los Angeles for the summer with Pink Penguin, catching rays and the like. The real reason I’m here is because I have an internship with the Jim Henson Company. I’ll post about my overall experience once the job ends.

This is going to be an interesting summer, not just for me but my brother as well. He’s travelled too, but to a wholly different part of the world. It’s my hope that we will converge before summer’s end and move Penguinbros.com towards sinister Phase Three. Wish us luck!
