NonCon Reminder

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

I’m hoping this wouldn’t be a bad place (or time) to remind our readers of NonCon.

NonCon: A three-day convention of anime and gaming hosted by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Featuring six webcomic guests:

  1. Richard Stevens (Diesel Sweeties)
  2. Jonathan Rosenberg (Goats)
  3. Steven Cloud (Boy on a Stick and Slither)
  4. Meredith Gran (Octopus Pie)
  5. R. K. Milholland (Something Positive)
  6. Jeph Jacques (Questionable Content)

Registration is $15 for the weekend, and gives you unlimited access to our fun and family-friendly facilities. And yes, we do have Super Smash Bros. Brawl. We hope to see you there!

Welcome to February

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Ah February, also known as “the ‘bru.” Woke up to a light hailstorm. That’s always fun.

Things have been kind of crazy since I got back to campus. My sleep schedule is no longer extant, and it’s been causing me to hallucinate — and that’s why I haven’t updated the website yet. Lolz!

In more serious news… on the weekend of the 22nd of this month there will be a convention held at Vassar Campus in Poughkeepsie, NY. This convention is called NonCon, and it will not only be attended by me, but the following webcomic guests:

  1. R. K. Milholland (Something Positive)
  2. Jeph Jacques (Questionable Content)
  3. Richard Stevens (Diesel Sweeties)
  4. Jonathan Rosenberg (Goats)
  5. Meredith Gran (Octopus Pie)
  6. Steven Cloud (Boy on a Stick and Slither)

And I hope to see you there as well. Leave a comment if you’re planning to attend!

Mysterium 2007

I have suddenly found myself in the position of itinerary planner and driver for Mysterium 2007, which takes place this weekend in Santa Monica, CA. If you are in the area, and you love Myst or URU, stop over at the Comfort Inn on Santa Monica Blvd. each morning at ten this weekend for a fun-filled day of activities! More information about the event can be found in this thread.

MYSTY Eyed

For this week’s antiART, we’re going to try something a little different. For your viewing pleasure, I submit an experimental video entitled Woodstock. It’s not very long – just a little over a minute. Headphones are strongly recommended. I hope you enjoy it, and that it brings a little calm into your world.

Today I woke up to some exciting news: (more…)

Hey! Red Penguin and I have successfully braved the New York Comic Con, and I’m here to give you a report. (more…)

New Yawk, New Yawwwk!

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Red Penguin and I are attending the New York Comic Con. No, we don’t have a booth: we’re just going to be there. If you’re going to be there, make a comment in this post. There won’t be any cool prizes this year if you spot me or my brother in our logo tees…

T-Shirts emblazoned with the Penguinbros.com graphic logo. Not yet for sale.

Someday soon you’ll be able to buy these. Just a heads-up.

MoMA Countdown

Friday, October 13th, 2006

Okay, to celebrate this magical Residents week (only six more days until the screening and my birthday!!), here are some cool “Res” updates. First off, we got written up in the Walt Street Journal Online because of our Residents video submission! The article is viewable here, but this link may expire in a week (the WSJ is for paid members, you know), so that happens I’ll provide an archived version of the article… but until then this link should suffice.

EDIT: The link has indeed become unavailable for non-subscribers. I have archived the article here for your convenience.

The second Residents themed update is this week’s antiART. Before I post it, I should probably mention where it’s sourced from. In 2004, Red Penguin and I were commissioned to do a one minute music video for The Residents for their Commercial DVD. The video, which we’ve never made available until now out of respect for the band, is called Secrets.

So if you seen the video by now, you may recognize this image of the “Spider City.” It’s the cityscape backdrop in second shot featuring the spider towards the end. I’d post the other backdrop, but Red made that one and I don’t know how he’d take to that (maybe I should ask?)

We’ve reached the end of it, but it’s only just beginning! Stay Tuned!

The Residents: Community Art Project

Sunday, October 1st, 2006

Surprise! Here is the bonus weekend post I promised you, and what a whopper of a post it is! Some context: in mid-August, art-rock band The Residents put out a call for artists to contribute to a “community art project.” The task was simple: take the provided audio clip and create your own video to it. Red Penguin and I weren’t alloted much time to do a video, but we worked our feathery butts off to make it happen. Here it is:

But that’s not all! Because the Residents (and Museum of Modern Art representatives) liked the video so much, it was chosen as one of six to be screened at a MoMA event on October 19th. At this Residents retrospective (which will most likely be attended by Hardy Fox and Homer Flynn of the Cryptic Corp) our movie’s going to be thrown up on a big screen in front of a packed theatre. Is that cool or what?

So if you are in the New York area, you will have a unique opportunity to meet us, the Penguin Bros – in person! In the days approaching the event I will explain how things will go down in greater detail. Until next time, WOOOO!

That’s no update… it’s a space station!

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

Wow, can you believe that a whole month has gone by? Amazing.

Here’s a deal. Red Penguin and I will be in San Diego for the San Diego Comic Con. We don’t have a booth - this year - but we have a presence anyway. Look for us in these distinctive t-shirts:

If you find us, and mention Penguinbros.com (so we know you’re not just a crazy person) we’ll offer you a copy of The Finch! That’s right, The Finch! It’s done, and we have a limited amount of copies that we’re offering for free or 25 cents. We’re very proud of the comic, and truly believe it’s worth at least 25 cents. But hey, if you’re not good for it, take it for free. We won’t think any less of you.

Well, that’s it for now. Hopefully we’ll have something more to show post-Con but until that time comes, enjoy yourself.
